A week after their successful, I’d say, friendly match against Italian-giant AS Roma at ESPN Wide World of Sports, Orlando City SC announced on Friday that it will host one of the biggest teams in Brazil, Sao Paulo FC, on June 20th at ESPN WWoS. Kick-off for the match has yet to be determined.
Orlando City has shown over the past couple of years their goal of playing against some of the best competition, whether it is hosting friendlies with AS Roma, Sao Paulo FC, Bolton Wanderers, Newcastle United, Stoke City and Fluminense, or playing in the Disney Pro Classic before the season, a tournament that features several Major League Soccer teams.
“These types of matches are fantastic opportunities for both our players and fans to gauge our Club against some of the top competition in the world,” said Orlando City President Phil Rawlins in a statement. “As a Club, we have always embraced playing top international teams – and I expect the match versus Sao Paulo to be another great moment in our Club’s short history.”
Sao Paulo, for those of you that don’t know much about them, is arguably one of the most prolific soccer club’s outside of Europe, with one FIFA Club World Cup and two Intercontinental Cup titles to it’s name. And in Brazil, the club has won21 state titles, six Brasileirao titles, and three Libertadores Cups- the most prestigious international club football competition in South America.
Assuming they aren’t effected by injuries, Sao Paulo are expected to have accomplished players like Luis Fabiano, Maicon and Pato coming to Orlando with them.
Tickets for this match are already on-sale and can be found at Ticketmaster.
