USL PRO announced on Tuesday that midfielder Brian “Cobi” Span has been named the USL PRO Player of the Week for Week 12 of the 2014 season. Span scored a pair in Orlando City SC’s 2-1 win over the Montreal Impact Reserves on Saturday night at ESPN Wide World of Sports.
Span lead the charge for the Lions, who were without three of their key players due to international duty — Kevin Molino, the USL PRO goal scoring leader, Darwin Ceren and Tommy Redding — with his two goals, as Orlando picked up their 10th win of the season to stay unbeaten in league play through their first 13 matches.
A FC Dallas loanee, Span opened the scoring on Saturday with a nice finish off of an excellent cross by Luke Boden, and then added a second at the hour mark with an excellent solo effort that saw him pick up possession in midfield, run at the Impact defense and fire a low finish into the left corner of the net for what proved to be the winning goal.
Boden and Adama Mbengue were also given honorable mentions from USL PRO.
