Orlando City SC fires friendly shots at New York City FC over Frank Lampard

Orlando City SC and New York City FC won’t take the field to play each other until next season, but the rivalry on Twitter is already beginning.

Remember when David Beckham was given, pending a stadium deal, the rights to Major League Soccer’s 22nd franchise earlier in the year, and Orlando was quick to jump on Twitter some witty banter towards their new in-state rivals rivals, claim this is “our” state?

Well, @OrlandoCitySC was at it again on Thursday, but this time, it had nothing to do with the club that is still years off from actually joining the league.

As I’m sure you’ve heard, NYCFC introduced their second major designated player signing, Frank Lampard, in Brooklyn on Thursday. And while the two teams, coming into the league at the same time with a lot of hype surrounding the both of them, will already have a pretty interesting rivalry to look out for, Orlando wasted no time going after them, too.

Boom. 2015 is going to be very fun.
