Orlando City SC players Tyler Turner and Kevin Molino were named to the USL PRO Team of the Week for Week 20 of the 2014 season on Tuesday, the league announced. Richmond Kickers midfielder Shay Spitz was named Player of the Week.
Turner’s honor comes after scoring his first goal as a professional on Saturday night, scoring a second half goal in the Lions’ 4-1 win over the Charlotte Eagles. After being awarded a free-kick not to far outside of the penalty area, Darwin Ceren sent in a ball that found the head of Turner, who knocked it into the net for his first goal of the year.
Molino scored twice for Orlando City on Saturday night, as the soon-to-be Major League Soccer franchise clinched a playoff berth in USL PRO for the fourth consecutive season. His first goal came on a penalty kick after Cobi Span drew a hard foul just inside the penalty box, then he scored again about 10 minutes later after Luke Boden sent him a good through-ball pass up the middle to Molino, who beat the goalie with a chip shot over his head and into the goal.
Dennis Chin, who scored a goal, and Ceren was given honorable mentions.
Up next: Next up on the docket for Orlando City, the Lions will travel out to Pennsylvania next Saturday for a 6 p.m. match up with the Harrisburg City Islanders at Skyline Sports Complex in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
