Facundo Torres sets Orlando City single-season goal involvement record
Expectations were sky-high for Orlando's record signing Facundo Torres heading into his first MLS campaign, and the Uruguayan playmaker shattered them. Torres set the club's single-season goal involvement record Wednesday with an assist to Ercan Kara, giving Torres 24 combined goals and assists for the year --- 12 goals and 12 assists.
Torres broke the record previously set by Nani, who had 23 according to Austin David of the Orlando Sentinel.
Torres started the season somewhat slow, only showing quality and production in brief spurts, A strong summer run, including a dominant run in the US Open Cup, saw his production and international profile skyrocket.
The Peñarol product is still on the fringes of the Uruguayan National Team, and is scratching to earn a trip to Qatar for the upcoming FIFA World Cup. Torres was not included in the most recent team for La Celeste.
