You could argue that no one player's absence affected Orlando City more than Méndez last season. With the Ecuadorian, Orlando has a lively defensive presence and good passer anchoring midfield. Nobody else last year could even come close to replicating his skillset and that showed when he was away with Ecuador or out injured. This year, the burden is lessened with the addition of César Araújo, but Méndez is still a crucial figure in the center of the park.
