Supporters questioned what he was doing in the Orlando City SC lineup. He didn't make anything better during the early season spurts and false starts.

But they were quite wrong. Midfielder Facundo Torres quietly contributes to Orlando City SC's efforts to get above the dividing line that will let them see the pitch in the postseason. It won’t be easy at all.

In their recent effort at the pitch of the Chicago Fire, Torres contributed the only goal. Yet that lone score allowed City to leave the pitch with a point as Chicago played their best game of the year.

It was the second goal this season for Torres. But it was his fifth for the team across all competitions and his 32nd all-time. That puts Torres in second place for the franchise.

Torres said he started with the ball on his right foot, but moved it to his left. He didn’t feel as strong there, but the vital shot went in.

He added that leaving without a win gets no excuses from him or his teammates.

What prevented getting three points, instead of just one, is in what could have been key passes – the kind that create chances and can lead to scores.

Those types of passes – and creating chances – is what Torres and his teammates will be drilling on before hitting the pitch for their next match.

Torres should lead some of those drills. Two of his greatest strengths, according to scouts, are passing and finishing. He’s more of a finesse player than many of the other Orlando players. They run toward a more physical style of play.

His 14 key passes through the Chicago match ranks him fourth on the team this season. That, like most of the contributions of Torres, mostly get missed by supporters.

But Torres woke up during the Fire match. And that’s important. Because the quiet contributions of Torres, along with more scores, will be vital to Orlando City SC making this a season to remember.
