DC United started the season in dramatic fashion. The Black-and-Red opened the year against Toronto FC, and stole all three points with a pair of goals in second-half stoppage time. Homegrown attacker Ted Ku-DiPietro assisted the equalizer and scored the winner against TFC.

DC came back to Earth in week two against the Columbus Crew. Lucas Zelarayán tied his wand of a right foot and scored a beautiful brace to sink DC. The Black-and-Red have clear holes throughout the roster, and still look like a team that could struggle this season.
