If this is a big year for Andres Perea, it's an enormous one for Mendez. He's in the last year of his contract with Orlando and like Perea, could either earn a fat contract from Orlando or a transfer overseas (or within MLS). But this is also a huge year for Mendez with his national team. Ecuador is on the brink of qualifying for the 2022 World Cup, which takes place right after the MLS season. If Mendez can have a big year for Orlando, he can parlay that to an even bigger role with Ecuador on the biggest stage in the world. If he can do that, who knows where his career could go.
