Orlando Pride announces 28-player preseason roster

The Orlando Pride announced its preseason 28-player roster Monday. Monday marked the official start of the team's preseason training camp.

Veteran Brazilian superstar Marta will be returning to Pride training after missing all of last season with a knee injury. The 36-year-old forward re-signed with Orlando this offseason and leads a squad full of intriguing young pieces.

All five of the Pride's 2023 NWSL Draft selections will be at training camp. Third overall selection Emily Madril is the only draftee currently under contract. The former Florida State forward signed a contract with the league in 2022 and is signed with the Pride through 2025.

New signing Adriana is not yet in training camp as she awaits her P1 visa. The Brazilian international attacker was the marquee signing for the Pride this offseason. She scored 72 goals and helped win 10 titles with Corinthians in her home country before making the move to the NWSL.

Only 21 of the 28 training camp invitees are currently under contract with Orlando. In addition to the four unsigend draftees, three players earned non-roster invitations to camp. Midfielder Thais Reiss made her debut with the Pride last season and returns to the club without a contract extension.

Former NJ/NY Gotham midfielder Nicole Baxter and undrafted rookie goalkeeper McKinley Crone will also join Orlando's training camp on an invitee status.

This is the first training camp under first year head coach Seb Hines. The former Orlando City center back took over as the interim last season and earned the full time position after helping stabilize the club following the Amanda Cromwell scandal.

Orlando will be without a pair of key leaders this season. Goalkeeper Erin McLeod and midfielder Gunny Jónsdóttir retired from the NWSL this offseason to move back to Jónsdóttir's home country of Iceland.

The Pride started training camp Monday, but a full preseason schedule has yet to be announced. There also is no official NWSL schedule for the 2023 season.
