Reports: Orlando City Agree to Fee for Argentine Left Back
According to César Luis Merlo, Orlando City has reached a verbal agreement with Racing Club for the transfer of 19-year-old left back Ignacio Galván. The deal is for a loan with an option to buy for $500,000 in December.
Orlando have long needed a backup left back, and currently have no natural left backs behind the injury-prone Joao Moutinho. Galván is a very unproven player so far, with less than 400 professional minutes under his belt with Racing Club in Argentina. He's so unproven so far that he doesn't even have a market value on Transfermarkt.
Orlando have recent history with Racing, signing center back Rodrigo Schlegel in 2020. Galván and Schlegel boast similar resumes in Argentina, both coming through the academy at Racing Club, but neither played hardly at all with their original club.
This is an undeniably good signing for Orlando City. Best case scenario, Orlando gets a good young backup left back who can potentially take Moutinho's spot down the line. Worst case scenario, Galván spends a year on loan either on the bench or with Orlando City B then goes back to Argentina.
Orlando has done well to identify a player who could potentially be an asset who has very little risk. Backup left back has been a position of need for going on four seasons and Galván can provide that depth. He's also yet another young South American being brought to the club further opening that wide open pipeline.
