One year away from their first home opener in Major League Soccer, Orlando City SC hosts the Pittsburgh Riverhounds in their first home game of their final season in USL Pro, with kick-off scheduled for 7:30 pm ET at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Kissimmee, Florida.
The Lions opened up their season last Saturday with a 1-1 draw against the Charleston Battery. Austin Da Luz slipped home the equalizer in the 65th minute to help Orlando City come back home with one point.
For the Riverhounds, this is their first match of the season, coming off 38 point, 7th place finish in 2013. Pittsburgh partnered with MLS side the Houston Dynamo during the offseason, and will bring in the Dynamo trio of defender Anthony Arena, Jamaican national Jason Johnson, and homegrown player Bryan Salazar will join the squad on loan this season.
Orlando City and Pittsburgh met three times during the regular season last year. The first game ending in a 0-0 draw, and dropping the second game against the Riverhounds, 1-0. The third match came during the first round of the 2013 USL Pro playoffs, with Orlando City winning 5-0.
The Lions will be playing off of their home games at the WWOS this season while they not only wait for their new downtown stadium to be build, but the Citrus Bowl, which had been their home in previous year, is undergoing a heavy facelift.
There has been a lot of terrible weather rolling through Florida, and even though it probably won’t be enough to keep this game from happening, it’s worth telling everyone that is heading out to the game to stay safe and wear a poncho.
