USWNT Victory Tour Continues to Orlando

In one week the Citrus Bowl will once again be filled to capacity with thousands of screaming fans as the reigning World Cup Champions, the USWNT, continues their victory tour around the country. They will play host to Brazil at the Citrus Bowl. Jill Ellis recently added eight players to the 23 players who were on the team during the World Cup to bring the roster number up to 31.

The game in Orlando will be the second match versus Brazil in only four days, as they play each other on the 21st in Seattle. The women have been on a tear during the tour, going 4-0 so far against Costa Rica and Haiti two times each. The games versus Brazil will be their toughest opponent on the Victory Tour.

Shannon Boxx announced her retirement earlier this year and has determined that the game in Seattle will be her last professional game. Lauren Holoday and Lori Chalupney both also announcement their retirement from the USWNT this year. The fans down here will be treated to both Holiday and Chalupney’s final game. Abby Wambach is still currently deciding on her future in the sport has not made any official announcement about plans to retire or to push forward and train and play in Rio at the Olympics.

This game, like so many of the Orlando City games at the Citrus Bowl, is bound to be filled with lots of excitement as the USWNT have a long, intense past with Brazil. There also seems to be a lot of speculation about an NWSL expansion team coming to Orlando for next season, with rumors swirling that the announcement will happen sometime during this week, just ahead of the Victory Tour game. Sounds like perfect marketing if you ask me, and a great opportunity to draw even more soccer fans to Central Florida. No matter what happens or doesn’t this week, women’s soccer will be alive and exciting this weekend in central Florida.

The USWNT takes on Brazil on Sunday October 25th at 2:30pm. Tickets are still y. There will also be a free open practice at The Citrus Bowl on Saturday October 24th. The gates open at 10:30am with the training starting at 11am.
