Philadelphia Union vs. Orlando City Lions: Match Recap

Orlando City lost to the Philadelphia Union on Sunday as the Lions were eliminated from playoff contention. A Sebastien Le Toux penalty kick was all the Union needed in what was not Orlando City’s best offensive performance. The Lions welcomed back both Kaka and Brek Shea, who missed last week due to yellow card accumulations. Even with their two stars in tow, Orlando City simply could not find the fluidity or creativity to muster much of an offensive threat. Making matters worse, the Lions were reduced to 10 men as Cristian Higuita was sent off for two second half yellow cards.

Although Orlando City needed a minor miracle to make the playoffs, fans and players alike were optimistic that the could pull out a victory, but it simply was not meant to be.

With the season now officially over for Orlando City, fans can take delight in their team’s inaugural season. While missing the playoffs is certainly not what fans had hoped for, the team was able to contend for a playoff berth until the very end, showing that the Lions will be formidable team for years to come. With breakout seasons from goalkeeper Tally Hall and first overall draft pick Cyle Larin, City fans can rejoice knowing they have the cornerstone pieces for a successful franchise. It may have ended earlier than we had hoped, but it sure was a heck of a ride!
