Inadequate communication between OCB goalkeeper Mark Ridgers and his back line, led to two Harrisburg City Islander (2-3-0, 6 points) goals and doomed Orlando City B (1-4-1, 4 points) to its third defeat in four games.
The Islanders controlled most of the early play and it paid off for the home team in the 16th minute, when a low cross was touched in near post by Orlando defender Kyle McFadden for an own goal. Ridgers had the cross covered and would have been able to get to it, but McFadden lunged in unnecessarily, I’m assuming because Ridger’s didn’t call him off.
Five minutes later, Bryan Rochez equalized from the penalty spot. Tony Rocha was fouled after an impressive run and the Honduran forward was happy to send the keeper the wrong way and claim his first goal of the USL season.
Just twelve minutes later, Harrisburg would grab their second lead of the night, a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. A Paul Wilson cross from a free kick met the head of defender Shane Johnson who’s header, which would have been easily stopped had Mark Ridgers stayed on his line, floated above Ridgers who was stuck in no-man’s-land.
Orlando City B played better in the second half and created a few good chances. Substitute Marius Obekop kept popping up in dangerous spots, but the former New York Red Bull couldn’t find the back of the net.
Orlando City B’s next match is this coming Sunday when they host FC Montreal, at Titan Soccer Complex. This game is the first of three that OCB host next week, as they also play FC Cincinnati on Wednesday and Bethlehem Steel FC on Saturday. All of the matches are set to kick off at 7:30 pm ET and will be live streamed on the USL’s YouTube channel.
