Orlando City B holds off FC Montreal, Claims First Home Win

Orlando City B (2-4-1, 7 points) claimed their first home win of the season last night, a 1-0 victory over the struggling FC Montreal (0-5-0, 0 points). The team showed great resolve to keep a clean sheet, despite defender Devron Garcia being sent off in just the 18th minute.

The only goal of the game came in just the 9th minute. The move started when Bryan Rochez picked up a long ball from the defense about 35 yards out, Rochez went on a penetrating run and laid the ball off perfectly to Tyler Turner. Turner’s cross over shot Michael Cox in the middle of the box, but Lewis Neal was waiting at the far post to nod the ball back across the face of goal where Cox was waiting to head in for his second goal of the season. The goal can be seen exactly 19 minutes into the following video.

It was a great team goal, reminiscent of Eric Avila’s goal to open the scoring for Orlando City in the famous 4-0 drubbing of the LA Galaxy last season.

The good vibes didn’t last long as Garcia was shown red for denying Montreal forward Charles Joly of an obvious goal-scoring opportunity just nine minutes later. The Lions were lucky that the foul occurred just outside of the penalty area.

The Orlando City B goal faced 15 shots but a stellar outing from goalkeeper Mark Ridgers and the OCB defense kept Montreal off of the scoreboard and earned the Lions their second win in their last three matches.

Orlando City B’s next match is on Wednesday, when they host FC Cincinnati at 7:30, hopefully they can keep the momentum going to carry them through their busy three game week.
