Orlando City B (3-5-2, 11 points) defeated the defending USL champion Rochester Rhinos (4-2-2, 14 points) 2-1 behind a brace from Hadji Barry. Another bit of good news came from the game, as center-back Conor Donovan played his first full 90 minutes following an ACL injury he suffered last August.
After two weeks without a game Orlando City B came back with a statement win on Sunday night.
The Lions came out strong in the first half and after what was a frustrating first 40 minutes of near misses, Barry finally found the breakthrough. Tony Rocha picked up the ball in the midfield and released the striding Barry who took one touch and slotted the ball home past the onrushing keeper to claim his first goal in purple.
In the 57th minute, the former University of Central Florida player bagged his second goal with moment of individual brilliance. Barry picked the ball up about 40 yards out from goal and went on a strong run down the left flank. He feigned a shot that put a defender on the ground, took another touch to give himself a better angle and smashed the ball into the low right corner of the goal from about 20 yards out.
The Lions did concede late in the match via the penalty spot, but in the end, they held on to earn a valuable 3 points to vault them over Harrisburg, Wilmington and Toronto in the standings.
Orlando City B’s next game is at home, this Saturday May 28th, against the Charlotte Independence at 7:30 pm EST.
