Orlando City Copa America Break Player Grades: Julio Baptista

Attacking Mid, Brazil

Orlando City attacking midfielder has had some promising moments in, this, his first season with the club.

Fans were shocked when the club announced they had signed the former Real Madrid, Arsenal, and Brazil National Team star early in the season and so far he has been a pleasant surprise.

He’s featured in eight games, most of which as a substitute, and played 256 minutes. He has scored one goal and recorded two assists in his limited playing time and is always available to provide that much needed spark off of the bench.

“La Bestia’s” two performances that stand out the most, came against the Montreal Impact and New York City FC. Against the Impact, Baptista linked up beautifully with Kaka, flicking a delicate lofted pass, which Kaka squared for Cyle Larin to smash in to give Orlando City late lead that they would not relinquish.

In the Lion’s most recent game before the Copa America break, Baptista scored his first goal for the club, spurring them to a dramatic two goal comeback to earn a valuable point on the road at Yankee Stadium.

Orlando City has prided itself on the resiliency within its squad and the addition of Julio Baptista definitely added another layer to the team’s “never say die” attitude.
